Achieving Real Zero

We partnered with Fortescue to create a system-first approach: delivering a robust design language and a component library that would enable their teams to scale content, launch new sections, and expand across borders—without reinventing the wheel each time.

The Task

Fortescue is not your average mining company. With one of the world’s most ambitious climate goals—real zero, not just net zero—they needed a digital platform that could scale with their mission. But beneath the storytelling and impact, there was an equally ambitious technical task: building a flexible, scalable foundation in Sitecore that would support global growth, evolving business units, and rapid iteration.

Challenges

Fortescue’s digital presence had to speak to a broad audience—investors, governments, engineers, and sustainability experts—while remaining adaptable to the company’s rapid evolution across sectors like mining, green energy, and technology. The challenge was twofold:

First, the brand needed a refreshed user experience that communicated clarity and purpose across all touchpoints. Second—and just as critically—they needed a powerful, structured content system in Sitecore that could support decentralized content creation, localization, and cross-sector growth without compromising consistency or speed.

Insights

Through close collaboration with Fortescue’s internal teams and stakeholders, it became clear that flexibility and governance had to go hand in hand. Site editors needed a setup that empowered them to build quickly, but still ensured alignment with the broader brand and design strategy.

We also identified a clear need for reusable components that could serve multiple functions: a single content block might need to work across a press release, an innovation highlight, and a green hydrogen microsite. This insight shaped our modular approach to UX and component design—creating a scalable, futureproof library rather than hardcoded pages.

Solution

At the heart of the new Fortescue platform is a component-based design system, tightly integrated with Sitecore’s architecture. We built a custom component library that gave editors maximum flexibility—allowing them to stack, rearrange, and adapt content with ease while still staying on-brand.

The UI is bold, authoritative, and modular—supporting both rich storytelling and technical depth.

Our design system also supports accessibility, performance, and global deployment needs—making it easier for Fortescue to adapt and expand across languages, regions, and evolving climate strategies.

Results

Fortescue now has a digital platform as bold and forward-thinking as its mission. Built on a solid Sitecore foundation and powered by a scalable component library, the new system allows for rapid growth, consistent user experiences, and efficient internal workflows.

It’s not just a redesign—it’s an infrastructure for global storytelling, cross-sector expansion, and sustained innovation. A true digital backbone for a company on a mission to change the world.
